Join Other North Hills Neighbors,
Plan a National Night Out |
|
1.
What is National Night Out?
National Night Out is the
nation's night out against crime.
Sponsored by the National
Association of Town Watch, residents
are encouraged to join with their
neighbors to have a neighborhood
block party, ice cream social or
other outdoor event to build
neighborhood spirit and unity -
which is the first defense against
crime. Research shows that when
neighbors know each other and look
out for each other crime goes
down.
2. How can I register
for National Night Out?
Register your party online, or
contact Brenda Ivey with the
Oakland Police Department at
238-3091. The deadline to
register is 5:00 pm on Monday,
July 28th. Only registered
groups will be eligible for a
visit!

4. When is National
Night Out?
National Night Out is on
Tuesday, August 5, 2008 between
7:00 pm and 9:00 pm. It is
always held the first Tuesday in
August.
5. Who can host a
National Night Out party?
The City of Oakland
welcomes the participation of
any neighborhood or community
group in National Night Out, and
encourages you to utilize this
event as a way to bring people
together and to have fun! City
of Oakland elected officials,
police officers, and city
employees enjoy visiting
National Night Out events as a
way to strengthen the ties
between residents and the
Oakland Police Department. This
year every party will receive at
least one visit from a team of
city officials, police officers,
or city employees, so register
early!
6. I've never organized
a block party before. How do I
do it?
It is easy, see #1,

Party Guide

City Council President Ignacio
De La Fuente to Speak to North
Hills NCPC Town Hall Meeting
November 5, 2008
|
|
Topic:
"Is Measure Y Working"
Join your neighbors at the
Highlands Country Club, 110
Hiller Drive, 7 pm November 5 to
hear City Council President De
La Fuente talk about Measure Y
(the voter passed measure that
is designed to bring the number
of Oakland Police Officers to
803 and fund a variety of crime
reduction programs in the
community.) This town hall
forum is timely in that it
happens the day after the
November election. President De
La Fuente will no doubt have
things to say about other
happenings in the city,
including the election results.

Warning from OPD on
Craigslist.org Scam in North Oakland |
|
Three
incidents reported in OPD Area 1
From Captain Anthony Toribio,
Police Patrol Division Area One
Oakalnd Police Department: We
have had 3 recent armed
robberies with the following
commonalities: The victim
attempts to buy a laptop or
other computer equipment from
someone on Craigslist. The
victim shows up to a location
(so far it has been on police
beats 12X/12Y in residential
areas) with cash in hand. The
suspect approaches, wearing a
bandana and armed with a
handgun, and robs the victim.
Our investigators are actively
working on these cases and will
hopefully identify the person(s)
responsible. Community members
need to use caution when making
these transactions. I suggest
they be made in public or well
travelled places. In addition,
all suspicious people should be
reported to OPD.

improve the quality of life in
the North Oakland Hills area by
ensuring that residents are
informed about ways to reduce
crime, get to know neighbors and
know where to turn for help The
North Hills NCPC is funded, in
part, by the Oakland Police
Department, and is a
Neighborhood Crime Prevention
Council (NCPC) encompassing the
geographical boundaries of OPD

Empowering organized North
Hills neighborhoods to address
crime and improve the quality of
life in our community is our
goal. As a group, we meet once
each month. One of the most
important things we do is
discuss, decide upon and
communicate to the Oakland
Police Department our priorities
for the North Hills each month.
Neighbors who attend these
meetings have the opportunity to
provide input into these
prioirities.
We encourage you to join us in
our efforts to make the North
Hills a better place to live and
enjoy.
Please forward this eNewsletter
to your neighbors and encourage
them sign up to receive this
communication. We plan to send
a couple of these each month as
news of interest to the North
Hills materializes.
